Procrastination Resources

In preparing for the 24-Apr-2009 show, I’ve uncovered the following resources regarding procrastination, in some form or flavor.

Ian Coburn
Author of “God is a Woman: Dating Disasters”

psychotherapists Marilyn Kagan, LCSW, and Neil Einbund, Ph.D., who recently released Defenders of the Heart: Managing the Habits and Attitudes That Block You from a Richer, More Satisfying Life (Hay House)

Kagan and Einbund discuss how to face your own fears and offer exercises and guidelines on how to manage procrastination. Here’s a sneak-peak:

· Visualize yourself doing the task

· Follow a ten minute rule

· Don’t try to do everything at once

· Make it fun; create an air of excitement

· Reward your efforts

ERASE Method of ending procrastination:
E stands for Examine where your No is missing.
– Many people have “lost their No” and can’t say no
to themselves, even when it’s hurting them.
R stands for Realize why you’re doing it.
– Ask yourself, “What do I get out of doing this?”
(No one does anything for no reason.)
A stands for Accept the Cost.
– Ask yourself, “What is doing this costing me?”
(The more it costs you, the more leverage you have to change.)
S stands for Substitute or Swap.
– It’s hard to just “stop” doing something. Better and easier
to substitute one habit for another.
E stands for Engage security measures.
– Make sure the people around you know what you’re doing
and that you’re trying to change. This gives you more leverage.
ERASE method is by Noah St. John, the author of the new book The Secret Code of Success:
7 Hidden Steps to More Wealth and Happiness (HarperCollins).
